Princess Alice Bank

Located 45 miles southwest of Faial island, Princess Alice Bank is a submerged seamount that rises from more than 2000m to a shallow peak at about 35m. Diving at Princess Alice is a unique and thrilling experience! Clear blue waters and strong currents offer an impressive underwater scenario steaming with life and activity. Highlights include giant mobula rays (Mobula tarapacana) commonly found in groups of up to 20-40 animals, big shoals of barracudas, great amberjacks, Atlantic bonitos and skipjack tunas. In August, whale sharks can be occasionally be sighted!

Day program:
Full day tour (7h30am to 17h30 pm)
Boat ride takes approximately 2 hours each way
Detailed safety briefing the day before

Dive season: July to September, when the sea is calmer and the water is warmer (20-24ºC) and clearer (25 30m); mobula and pelagic fish sightings are also greater during this period. Due to the bank’s remote location, all trips are dependent on weather and sea conditions (a one week stay is recommended).

Requirements:
• 18 years or older
Freediving certification (Level 2 Apnea Academy, SSI or Molchanovs, or level 3 AIDA certification)
Own diving insurance

Price: 270 EUR /person

Includes: Freediving guide, weights, meals and drinks (breakfast and lunch)

To take on board: sunscreen, towel, wind jacket, sun glasses and a hat or a beanie; sea sickness pills if necessary

Gift certificates are recorded on our records under the name of the buyer, so when the recipient calls or emails for a reservation we’ll ask for the “givers” name and certificate number.
